Michael Phelps Responds to Ryan Lochte’s Robbery Controversy

After days of misinformation concerning a possible robbery, Olympic champ Ryan Lochte finally released a statement apologizing for his behavior and attempted to give this whole confusing incident some finality. Now, Olympic superstar and teammate Michael Phelps is weighing in on Lochte’s legal troubles.

The recipient of 23 gold medals was asked about Lochte while exiting a Starbucks in Scottsdale, AZ on Friday (Aug. 18, 2016). When asked if his blonde-haired teammate will be able to survive the legal controversy, Phelps sounded confident.

We have good people taking care of us, so hopefully,” he told E! News.

In his statement, Lochte fessed up to not being totally honest with authorities and stately that he regretted stealing the spotlight from athletes competing on the international stage.

“I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend – for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics,” he wrote. “I waited to share these thoughts until it was confirmed that the legal situation was addressed and it was clear that my teammates would be arriving home safely.”

Lochte could face up to three years in prison, however the general consensus is he’s not going be charged.
