Gene Wilder Dies at Age 83

Gene Wilder, the prolific actor from films including Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Young Frankenstein, passed away at the age of 83.

According to Variety, Wilder died on Monday (Aug. 29, 2016) at his home in Stanford, Connecticut. His nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman attributes his death to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Wilder was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1989. He is survived by his fourth wife Karen Boyer, whom he married in 1991, and his nephew. His family released the following statement (via ABC News):

Wilder was nominated twice for Academy Awards; once for his role in The Producers and again for co-writing Young Frankenstein with Mel Brooks. He most recently appeared on television as Mr. Stein in Will & Grace between 2002 and 2003 and earned an Emmy for his performance.
