Teyana Taylor on How She Maintains Her Killer Bod
New “It Girl” Teyana Taylor made the crowd gasp at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, dancing in Kanye West’s “Fade” music video in next to nothing. Now, she has the body everyone covets, including West’s wife, Kim Kardashian.
Kim tweeted, “Ok just woke up & watched the Fade video again for my Monday morning gym motivation. Thank you @TEYANATAYLOR… You guys!!! @TEYANATAYLOR has the best body ever!!! Like no joke and just had a baby!!!!”
Indeed it’s true. Taylor and fiancè Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shumpert have an 8-month-old daughter. So how does she do it? Apparently by not doing much.
In a 2014 interview with VLAD TV’s DJ Duffey, she admitted that she rarely exercised, maybe running on an elliptical once in awhile. “I do the lazy workouts,” she said. “Even squats hurt for me. I ain’t gonna front.”
Taylor, who is also a singer, said she’s just lucky to have been born looking like she does. “I was 6 years old with a six pack. I was one of those brolic little kids. Once I got older I realized, ‘OK, this is not going anywhere.’ My arms are already kind of naturally brolic, so I try to work on the things that I want more toned.” She added, “I can give you advice all day on the butt and the legs.”
Oh, and she also eats junk food. “Let me put it like this: At some point Little Debbie was sending me boxes of cakes,” Taylor joked. “I always tell my mom I’m allergic to vegetables. I’m real funny. Like, if I can’t pronounce it or spell it, I won’t eat it. I’m more of a fried chicken, baked macaroni—I eat everything. I don’t eat healthy at all.” Granted, this was a few years ago, so she may have had to change her tune a little since giving birth, but still.
And on that “Fade” video that blew everyone’s mind, the music video’s veteran choreographer and artistic director Jae Blaze explained to Pitchfork the whole cat thing at the end.
“I think the vision behind that was how amazing Teyana is, and how she’s been on the rise, and how she’s working, and you are now seeing her blossom into this fierce lioness, this fierce cat. She has worked her way into that, and she’s in a great position right now in her life. She has her family. She’s being held down by her amazing husband. She has a beautiful daughter. You know, the lioness always protects her baby. I think it really is about her coming into her fierceness. And that’s where she is in her life right now. She is blossoming.”
That she is!
