Renée Zellweger Opens Up About Her Close Gay Friends and Having Female Admirers

Renée Zellweger Says She Doesn't Need to Have Kids to Be Happy
Unlike her character Bridget Jones, Renée Zellweger is not sure is she sees children in her future

Renee Zellweger said she’s “lucky” to have gay men as some of her closest friends.

In a candid interview with The Advocate, Zellweger explained, “The majority of my closest friends are gay, and I have my pearl. I went to Miami for New Year’s Eve some years back with him and his boyfriend, and we got paparazzied on the beach. … Some tabloid ran the photos and wrote, ‘Has Renée finally found her pearl?’ I was like, ‘Aww, he’s my pearl!’ He’s family to me. We dated for a minute, actually. … No, I knew he was gay — or had been gay. But he wasn’t gay that day!”

Zelleger also admitted one of her female friends once expressed love for her. “Yes, thank goodness. But I loved her differently. We talked about it, we laughed, and I was happy she trusted me and that we have a relationship where we could have that conversation.”

The actress is promoting her new movie Bridget Jones’s Baby, the third installment in the popular franchise about the quirky, adorable British news producer. This time, Bridget finds herself pregnant at 43, but she isn’t sure if the father is her ex-boyfriend Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), who is trying to rekindle their love, or an American entrepreneur (Patrick Dempsey) she had a fantastic one-night stand with.

Zellweger joked with the magazine on whether the two gents may end up together. “That was actually an ongoing joke on set because Colin and Patrick immediately had such an affinity for each other, which was wonderful. Maybe in the next movie? There’s still time!”

Bridget Jones’s Baby opens in theaters September 16.
