‘Saturday Night Live’ Is Adding Three New Cast Members to Its Roster

Saturday Night Live chose three new funny people to join the show when Season 42 premieres October 1.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mikey Day, a writer on the show since 2013, will transition to on-camera talent. Also joining the cast are Alex Moffat and Melissa Villasenor.

Day comes from the popular L.A. comedy sketch group Groundlings, from which other SNL alum came, including Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig.

Villasenor is a Los Angeles-based comedian and was a top 16 finalist on Season 6 of America’s Got Talent. Moffat is from Chicago and has taught teen improv at The Second City.

This news follows the major – and surprising — casting cuts that happened a few months ago. Contracts for strong regulars Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah were not renewed.
