Protesters Tried to Rush Ryan Lochte After His ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Debut
According to E! News, as Lochte and Burke were waiting to hear judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s response to their performance on Monday, two individuals wearing anti-Lochte t-shirts tried to rush the stage. They were quickly stopped by security and handcuffed. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to E! News the two individuals were placed under arrest for trespassing at CBS studios on the set of DWTS.
An insider told E! News there was a whole row of people with the anti-Lochte shirts on, but they were immediately kicked out as the crowd booed them. “Everyone was freaked out, especially Ryan and Cheryl. They were just frozen the entire time in utter shock,” the source said.
Needless to say, Lochte and Burke were pretty shaken up by the incident. Host Tom Bergeron cut to commercial break when it happened. When the show returned, the Olympic swimmer said, “I’m doing good. So many feelings are going through my head right now. A little hurt. I came out here and I wanted to do something I was completely uncomfortable with, and I did.”
Burke added, “I’m hurt for Ryan. He’s sweet, he’s kind. He’s working his butt off. I hope people give him a chance.”
The gold medalist came under fire in August when he lied about being robbed during the Rio Olympics. He has been suspended for 10 months by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
