WATCH: Tim Gunn Thinks Kanye West’s Fashion Line Is ‘Dumb’

Kanye West's Yeezy Season 4 Recap
Everything you need to know about the runway show.

As someone whose job is to literally judge fashion, Tim Gunn is giving Kanye West’s collaboration with adidas a huge thumbs down.

A week after West debuted his Yeezy Season 4 line at New York Fashion Week, Gunn shared his uncensored thoughts about the rapper-turned-designer’s new collection. Spoiler alert: His words were not kind.

“I’m totally perplexed about why the fashion industry has not looked at these, frankly, dumb basic clothes and cried hoax. Hoax!” he told Access Hollywood. I mean, Kanye West is a sphinx without a riddle. I just don’t understand why people are so in awe. Look at this. They’re basically wearing … stretch undergarments.”

The Project Runway mentor continued, “I think the only thing dumber than the clothes would be the people who would buy these clothes.”

Gunn also revealed that he’s been banned from the Met Gala by Anna Wintour, who is also close friend of West’s, after off-handedly making a comment to the press about seeing the Vogue bigwig being carried down a flight of stairs at a fashion show.

“It was a remarkable thing to see and that’s all. I wasn’t talking about her character,” he recalled. “Someone from her office called and demanded a retraction be printed. And I said, ‘Well, that would imply that it’s not true. And it is true!'”

“I was invited to the Met Gala at one point a number of years ago, and then I was informed that I was uninvited — that Miss Wintour would not permit my presence” he continued. “I did a happy dance. I didn’t want to go anyway. Big stuffy event.”

Well, that’s one place West and Gunn wont cross paths then.
