Simone Biles Forced to Address Her ADHD After Hacked Medical Records Leak

Simone Biles was one of the four Olympic athletes whose private medical records from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) were posted online by a Russian government group on Tuesday (Sept. 13, 2016).

Biles’ records showed she tested positive for Methylphenidate, a stimulant used as a treatment for ADHD, that the International Gymnastics Federation gave her permission to take. The Olympian addressed her use of the drug on Twitter Tuesday night to assert that her use of the stimulant was not for the sake of gaining athletic advantage.

The Russian cyber-espionage group, known as Fancy Bear, also leaked the medical files of Serena WilliamsVenus Williams, and basketball player Elena Delle Donne in their mission to expose the “dirty methods to win.” Serena’s alleged medical files state that she took painkillers and anti-inflammatories, though this has neither been confirmed or denied.
