This Is Why Christina Grimmie was Left Out of the ‘In Memoriam’ Tribute at the Emmys
When the “In Memoriam” tribute aired during Sunday night’s (Sept. 18, 2016) Emmys, fans were outraged to see Christina Grimmie was noticeably missing.
Fans took to social media to express their disappointment in the Television Academy for leaving the singer, who got her big break on the reality show The Voice, which picked up an Emmy that night, out of the tribute. Because of time constraints, every year a few people are left out, but fans felt because of the nature of Grimmie’s tragic death, she deserved a spot.
Now, the Academy explains why Grimmie was missing, and it turns out they didn’t forget about the singer at all. An Emmys spokesperson explained the reasoning in a statement to Entertainment Tonight
As is the case each year with the Emmys, the In-Memoriam segment is constrained by time and space. Every year, the telecast producer is unfortunately limited by the time available and cannot include every significant person who has passed in the telecast In Memoriam; therefore, we note everyone in the industry on our website In Memoriam and during a simultaneous In Memoriam crawl on our Backstage Live streaming program.”
