Michael Strahan Admits He and Kelly Ripa Are No Longer Friends

Everyone was shocked when Michael Strahan announced he’d be leaving Live with Kelly and Michael to join Good Morning America, everyone including his co-host Kelly Ripa.

After Strahan had announced his departure, things got even more dramatic when Ripa didn’t come to work for a week. But when she returned, everything seemed to be settled, and the co-hosts enjoyed their last few days together, culminating in an hour-long Farewell Michael episode. Now, Strahan is opening up about what happened to his relationship with his co-host of four years and it sounds like things didn’t end well after all.

“I wasn’t surprised by her reaction at all, but I can’t control somebody else’s actions,” Strahan admitted to People when asked about Ripa being blindsided by the news. “I was there four years, and it’s about more than just being in front of the camera.”

“At one point I think we were friends. I don’t know what happened at the end,” he said of their current relationship before adding, “I learned a lot from her, though.”

Even though Strahan wishes things were handled a little differently, at the end of the day his main concern it making sure his work is done well. “Toward the end of it all, we didn’t really communicate that much,” Strahan said. “I kinda looked at it like, ‘It was what it was.’ I come from a business where you have to collaborate. The show was going well? We’re all winning. That’s all that matters to me.”
