Twitter Is Kinda Mad About How ‘Empire’ Handled This Season 3 Death

A character met their tragic death on Empire and all that they got was a post-mortem guest spot as a ghost and an “In Memoriam” reel.

During the Season 3 premiere of Empire, it was revealed that Rhonda Lyon, played by Kaitlin Doubleday, was the cast member that fell to their death during the Season 2 finale. To recap, Rhonda got into a fistfight with Anika (Grace Gealey) when Andre (Trai Byers) entered the scene and witnessed someone fall off the balcony.

It was Rhonda. She landed on a car and didn’t even get a funeral. The show just kinda kept on going without taking a brief moment of silence to remember all of the good times. They did, however, issue this “In Memoriam” montage in which she dances, gets freaky in hair rollers, and beats the crap out of several people.

Rhonda is still with us, though, except as a ghost that appears in Andre’s hallucinations. However, Twitter wasn’t too happy about how quickly the show moved on.

Empire’s showrunner Ilene Chaiken only said this on whether Ghost Rhonda is here to stay:

“We could still see her. Rhonda is quite likely not out of our Empire world just yet. I don’t want to say how long Andre will have this unusual relationship with his deceased wife, but there’s a good chance that we will see more of her.”
