‘Making a Murderer’ Subject Steven Avery Dumps Fiancée: ‘She Is a Gold Digger!’

Steven Avery has pulled the plug on his upcoming wedding to Lynn Hartmann.

The sad news comes just a week after it was announced that the couple were planning to exchange vows. Avery’s confidante Sandra Greenman revealed the new development on Facebook, sharing a statement from the convict, whose story was the subject of Netflix’s juggernaut series Making a Murderer in 2015.

“I have a statement that I need passed around to groups. Steve called me two times tonight and wants everyone to know that Lynn and him are done. She has been in this relationship for money and publicity. His eyes are finally opened!!!” wrote Greenman, via E! News.

The timing of the news is difficult to ignore considering Hartmann’s appearance on the daytime talk show Dr. Phil is scheduled to air today (Oct. 3, 2016) and tomorrow. The two-part exposé will also feature Avery and appears to be at the heart of their breakup.

“Lynn received at least $5,000 from Dr Phil, and he thinks more. She got another $1,000 for doing other shows. She also wanted to be on as many as possible,” Greenman continued.

Then, Greenman quoted Avery directly to explain that he feels deceived by Hartmann, elaborating on his claim that she was only with him for the notoriety attached to his case and the payout from the the publicity.

“His words: she is a golddigger. He wants someone to contact Dr. Phil before Mon. show annd (sic) let him know she was only in the relationship for money. I checked and double-checked with him to make very sure he wanted this put on and he said very much so.”
