Toni Braxton Hospitalized with Lupus Complications
Toni Braxton was recently hospitalized while being treated for lupus, but has been released and is doing much better.
A rep for the singer told E! News, “Toni is resting at home and she is fine. She was in an L.A. hospital for a few days, being treated for her lupus. She has been released and starts rehearsals for her upcoming tour this week.”
The rep added, “She was not in serious condition, though lupus is a serious disease and must be monitored at all times.
Braxton opened up about living with the autoimmune disease in 2015. “Some days I can’t balance it all. I just have to lay in bed,” she told Huffington Post. “Pretty much when you have Lupus you feel like you have the flu every day. But some days you get through it. But for me, if I’m not feeling well, I tend to tell my kids, ‘Oh mommy’s just going to relax in bed today.’ I kind of take it easy.”
The singer also admitted that lupus does make performing more difficult, saying, “That’s the toughest part, when I have to perform. So often, when it’s like that, it’s a lot of, ‘You sing!’ to the audience, you know. They kind of help me out a little bit without realizing it.”
However, she noted that she’s proud of never canceling a show due to illness. “I’ve never done that,” she said. “Even if I can’t perform, I still figure it out. Sometimes I look back [at] that evening [and] I go, ‘How did I get through that?'”
