Victoria Beckham Only Wants New Songs Sung at Spice Girls Reunion
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Beckham shared that she does not want to be included in the mini Spice Girls reunion for a surprising reason — it worked well for them the first time. Sure, it may sound crazy, but it makes sense.
“What we did in the Spice Girls was so special. If they sang Spice Girls songs I think I might be a bit sad,” Beckham says.
We understand how Posh Spice feels. The Spice Girls was a big part of her life. But, if the Spice Girls don’t sing their original music during their mini-reunion tour, is it even the Spice Girls? It won’t be the same group the world fell in love with years ago, that’s for sure.
Melanie “Mel C” Chislom also isn’t a fan of the reunion.
“The hardest part for me was letting people down,” she said LOVE magazine in an interview. “But something just didn’t feel quite right, and I had to follow my gut.”
Melanie “Mel B” Brown, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton are the only members returning for the reunion. Although it’s sad that all five girls aren’t returning for the 20th Anniversary, this will mark that start of a new journey for them.
On July 8, the trio announced that they have renamed the group to be GEM (for Geri, Emma, and Melanie).
“We hope to tell you soon what you want, what you really really want,” the girls announced in a YouTube video.
Although there haven’t been any updates as to what fans can look forward to for the mini-reunion, we believe the name change hints the possibility for new music to come. We’re sure Beckham is happy about this!
Beckham did wish the girls the best of luck with GEM, but she is ready to put that phase of her life behind her.
“I think I learnt a lot from the Spice Girls, most importantly how you can have everything one minute and then lose it the next,” Beckham explains. “I’ve been given a second chance, so I’m not going to lose it again.”
