Zoe Saldana and her sisters Mariel and Cisely recently hosted a dinner party where they and their guests discussed both their personal experiences with sexism in the workplace and what should be done about it. And because we should all be talking about this important issue, the cameras were rolling the whole time.
During the chat, Saldana compared how boys and girls are met with very different expectations at a very young age. While rambunctious boys are often given a choice to participate, girls are expected to be friendly and gracious at all times.
“As women, we have to learn to feel extremely comfortable with the word ‘no,’” the Guardians of the Galaxy star said. “The word ‘no’ is the most positive term we will ever know as a woman because the moment you wake up as a woman…you’re going to deal with so many more obstacles than man will deal [with] on an average basis. So if you’re not comfortable with the word ‘no’ you’re going to become a very unhappy individual.”
