Shailene Woodley Shares Poem After Being Arrested

Shailene Woodley shared a message with her Instagram followers after she was arrested for peacefully protesting in North Dakota.

“One day, baby, we’ll sing our poetry. The words dripping from our tongues wet with ripened patience,” wrote Woodley in the caption of the photo below. “And the lyrics, the sweet fruits born from the seeds our aging hands are now sowing. #alwaysinallways #heartforward #uptous #NoDAPL #protectcleanwater #iamonyourside.”

Woodley was arrested for trespassing on Monday (Oct. 10, 2016) when she was peacefully boycotting the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline. She captured the video on Facebook Live to bring her followers along in the experience. Protesters say that the pipeline—which would stretch from the border of where Montana and North Dakota meet Canada southeast into South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois—would be harmful to the environment and damage Native American tribal lands.

Woodley was released on Monday. She posted a $500 bond and was charged with criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot. Her first court date is scheduled for Oct. 24.
