Emma Stone Talks Equal Pay and Being Single in Hollywood

WATCH: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling Rave About Each Other at 'La La Land' Premiere
Our favorite on-screen couple, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, are together once again.

Emma Stone opens up about her feelings on equal pay in the latest issue of Vogue and while she agrees men and women deserve to get paid fairly, she admits asking for fair pay hasn’t always been easy.

“We should all be treated fairly and paid fairly. I’ve been lucky enough to have equal pay to my male costars,” she admitted before correcting herself, “Not ‘lucky.’ I’ve had pay equal to my male costars in the past few films.”

“But our industry ebbs and flows in a way that’s like, ‘How much are you bringing into the box office?’ ‘How much are you the draw or is the other person the draw?’” she explained. “I felt uncomfortable talking to my agent or lawyer about it because I was like, ‘Do people want to see me as much as they want to see Steve Carell?’ It’s a weird conversation to have because it’s trying to see oneself from the outside.”

But regardless of her own hangups, Stone still believes the fact that equal pay is still an issue is a national travesty. “What are we at [nationally]? Seventy-nine cents to the dollar? It’s insane. There’s no excuse for it anymore.”

Stone also got real about what it’s like to be single in Hollywood (she and longtime boyfriend Andrew Garfield called it quits last year, although they were spotted together in London just a few months ago), while remaining coy about her private life. “It’s been interesting,” she confessed. “It’s been a good year. And sad. Pros and cons.”
