Perrie Edwards Recalls ‘Awful’ Public Screaming Match with Zayn Malik

Even though it’s been more than a year since Perrie Edwards was dumped by Zayn Malik, their breakup is still very fresh in the British singer’s mind.

While promoting “Shout Out to My Ex,” a song rumored to be about her relationship with former One Direction crooner, with Little Mix, Perrie revealed she once had a screaming match with Malik that led to her breaking down in a very public place.

I was at the airport and I got an awful phone call … from someone,” she recalled on U.K’s Heart Radio, doing all but actually naming her former fiancé. “I just remember screaming in the airport. At an airport, you don’t do that, do you?”

According to bandmate Jade Thirlwall, the girl group had to form a protective barrier around Edwards, who was in a line to catch a flight to the United States at the time, as she cried.

“[Perrie] had a little mini breakdown in the airport” Thirwall remembered. “It was in the security line and so we thought ‘Oh god!'”

Jesy Nelson added, “We literally just made a little shell huddle around her so that no one could see her and we were like, ‘It’s okay, just let it out,'”

“I was like a woman possessed! It was awful!” Perrie confessed, explaining that she had to wear her sunglasses to hide her tears. “It just blubber and blubber and I thought I was going to explode.”

Days ago, a leaked excerpt from Little Mix’s upcoming book, Our World, divulged that Malik actually broke things off with Edwards over text.

“It was horrible, the worst time in my life,” the 23-year-old wrote. “A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult time for me.”

“I surrounded myself with friends and family,” she continued. “I didn’t want to be alone because when I was I’d start to think about things and get upset.”

Just months after the breakup, Malik reportedly started dating model Gigi Hadid.
