Playboy Model Katie May’s Cause of Death Revealed

'Queen of Snapchat' Katie May Dies After Suffering Stroke
Katie May, a Playboy model and social media superstar, passed away after suffering a stroke

The official cause of death for Katie May, who died in February after suffering a stroke, has been released.

According to People, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner said the Playboy model and social media superstar died as a result of torn artery in her neck sustained during a “neck manipulation by a chiropractor.”

Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told People that a chiropractor shifted May’s neck and tore her left vertebral artery, which blocked the blood flow to her brain and caused her to have a stroke.

Winter called the accidental death an “infarction of brain.” He said, “She had some clotting and went to the hospital where they tried to do some procedures but she passed away. I personally have not seen this before.”

On Jan. 29, 2016, less than a week before her death, the “Queen of Snapchat” tweeted about seeing a chiropractor for an adjustment when she hurt her neck during a photo shoot.

She wrote, “Pinched a nerve in my neck on a Photoshoot and got adjusted this morning. It really hurts! Any home remedy suggestions loves? XOXO.” May then tweeted a few days later that the pain had not gone away and that she was going back to the chiropractor. She died on Feb. 4, 2016.

In the wake of May’s death, a GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for seven-year-old daughter Mia and her education. “Anyone who was lucky enough to know Katie May was truly blessed by her incredible heart, mind and soul,” the page states. “She was an inspiration and a guiding light to so many people in this world.”
