Shailene Woodley Pleads Not Guilty on Trespassing Charges for Pipeline Protest
The Divergent actress was taken into custody last Monday (Oct. 10, 2016), and charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass and one count of misdemeanor engaging in a riot.
According to Woodley, she was participating in a “peaceful protest” against the controversial pipeline projects when authorities apprehended her. She shared a video on Facebook of her arrest, in which she questions why she and just handful were the only ones being arrested.
Woodley posted a poem about the arrest on Instagram, writing, “One day, baby, we’ll sing our poetry. The words dripping from our tongues wet with ripened patience. And the lyrics, the sweet fruits born from the seeds our aging hands are now sowing.
Shailene wasn’t in the North Dakota court Wednesday morning, but her attorney entered the plea. TMZ reports local media have already requested cameras to be allowed in the courtroom if it goes to trial, and the judge approved. This could be fun.
