Tituss Burgess Speaks Openly About Sexuality

Tituss Burgess, who plays one of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s best characters, Titus Andromedon, frankly discussed his sexuality in front of a crowd at a screening for a new film.

“I’ve never had any trouble being myself,” Burgess told the crowd, according to a report by Page Six. “Myself was a problem for a lot of people, but I didn’t have a problem.”

The actor was speaking at the NewFest LGBT Film Festival before a screening of The Pass, a British film based on a play about a closeted gay soccer player. Debra Messing also reportedly joined Burgess at the screening.

“I want to call attention to how normal our lives are, and to how powerful our messages are, and to have patience with those people who don’t understand who we are for whatever reason,” Burgess told the crowd. “I know I am preaching to the choir, but we can’t hide. We just can’t.”
