Kevin Gates Found Guilty of Battery After Kicking a Female Fan
A judge sentenced Kevin Gates to 180 days in Polk County jail on Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2016) after he was found guilty of battery for kicking a woman at a 2015 concert.
WFLA reports that he was convicted by a jury of six women after one day of testimony. Miranda Dixon, the 18-year-old female who admitted to tugging on the artist’s pants during the concert at Rumor’s Nite Club on Aug. 28, 2015, said, “I was trying to get his attention for my friend.” Dixon’s friend Teremal Redding added that the entire crowd was trying to grab at him “because he is a famous rapper.” Redding said that he kept on performing the first time that she grabbed him, but kicked her the second time around.
Previously, Gates admitted to kicking a fan and attempted to use Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law in his defense, which allows citizens to use “deadly force” if they believe that it is necessary to “prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself, or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony” or in the case of a home or vehicle invasion.
