Taylor Swift Donated $5,000 in Memory of Fan’s Deceased Sister
Last month, 18-year-old Katie Beth Carter was killed in a car accident. A GoFundMe account was set up to honor her and help her family cope with the tragic and sudden loss. Then, Taylor Swift surprised the family with a $5,000 donation. Now Kimi Carter, Katie’s sister is opening up about what Swift’s contribution meant to her and her family.
Along with her donation, the 26-year-old pop star included a note to her fan: “Kimi, No words can express how sorry I am for your loss. I know that you will keep Katie’s memory alive. Please know how much I am thinking of you and saying a prayer for your family. All my love, Taylor.”
“Somehow, Taylor Swift reached out to me exactly when I needed it the most,” said Kimi of the moving gift, via Billboard. “I felt more at peace. Katie was up there, pulling strings for me, trying to make this a little easier to get through.”
Amy Carter, Katie and Kimi’s mother also shared her reaction to Swift’s generous and thoughtful act.
“We’ve all learned to love Taylor’s music through the years,” said Amy. “Our daughter was known as ‘Kind Katie.’ And with a small gesture to a family she had never met, Taylor Swift demonstrated that same kindness. It’s the act of reaching out to someone in their darkest hour and saying, ‘I’m thinking of you.’ There’s so much power in a random act of kindness.”
