He complained about being creatively stifled, not being able to grow a beard, and not having a relationship with any of the boys since his departure. Given all of his complaints, it’d be easy to assume Malik believes joining One Direction was a huge mistake, but his upcoming memoir tells a different story.
In an exclusive excerpt provided to Teen Vogue, Malik reveals he’s very proud of the work he was able to do as a member of 1D.
“I can honestly say I’m proud of a lot of stuff from the One Direction days. I’m not sure people realize that, but I am. I’ve got the memorabilia – the platinum discs we received with every album – all over my house,” he writes in the book. “I have a wall dedicated to displaying them. One Direction was an incredible experience in its own right, and it’s a part of me, an integral part of my history, and I’m never going to deny that aspect of my life.”
