Susan Sarandon Endorses Green Party Candidate Jill Stein
As election day finally draws near, many famous Bernie Sanders holdouts like Sarah Silverman and Mark Ruffalo have shown their support for Hillary Clinton. However, one prominent Hollywood activist isn’t joining their ranks.
In a statement on Stein’s website, the Oscar-winning actress laid out why she cannot support the Democratic presidential candidate, citing Clinton’s lack of support for both a $15 minimum wage and the legalization of marijuana and not taking a firm stance against the Dakota Access Pipeline as a few of her reasons.
“I’ve been waiting for any indication that Hillary Clinton’s position on the issues that are most urgent to me, has changed [sic],” Sarandon wrote before detailing her numerous problems with Clinton’s agenda. “I’m therefore very happy to endorse Jill Stein for the presidency because she does stand for everything I believe in.”
The 70-year-old thespian argued that, in this tumultuous campaign season, fearing one candidate does not validate supporting their opposition.
“Fear of Donald Trump is not enough to support Clinton, with her record of corruption,” she wrote. “Now that Trump is self-destructing, I feel even those in swing states have the opportunity to vote their conscience.”
