Netflix just dropped the first real trailer for their upcoming adaptation of the beloved children’s book series, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, giving fans their first look at Neil Patrick Harris’ nearly-unrecognizable new character: Count Olaf.

Stepping into Jim Carrey’s shoes (he took on the role in the 2004 film), Harris also has big bushy eyebrows, a pointed goatee and wing-like wisps of hair as he is first introduced to his new wards, the Baudelaire children, after their parents mysteriously die in a fire.

The series, and presumably the show, explores the strange circumstances that continually befall the Count as he schemes to monopolize on the Baudelaire’s inheritance.

Expect macabre mischief when this new fantastical new series arrives on January 13, 2017.
