LISTEN: Kelly Clarkson, The Roots Cover ‘Hamilton’ Songs

As if the songs from Hamilton weren’t catchy enough already, they’ll definitely be stuck in your head when the biggest names in music cover them for the upcoming The Hamilton Mixtape.

This week, Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed that an album of Hamilton covers and remixes will be released by the end of the year. Just a day after the announcement, two songs from the collection — Kelly Clarkson’s rendition of “It’s Quiet Uptown” and a “My Shot” remix with The RootsBusta Rhymes, Joell Ortiz, and Nate Ruess — were released online.

“Recording ‘It’s Quiet Uptown’ while being pregnant with my son was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life,” Clarkson wrote on her Twitter on Friday (Nov. 4, 2016) after the song made its debut on streaming services.

Out on Dec. 2, The Hamilton Mixtape will also include covers by Sia, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Usher, as well as new music inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway smash. The full tracklist is as follows:
