Mariah Carey Returns to the Stage as New Details About Her Split with James Packer Emerge

Last night (Nov. 3, 2016), Mariah Carey hit the stage for the first time since her very public split with fiancé James Packer.

Carey got into the Christmas spirit early, shutting down an entire block in Toronto to perform for the annual Hudson’s Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Window unveiling. The singer wore a red satin Anna Maier gown with a pink sash detail, paired perfectly with her signature butterfly ring which she rocked on the finger that use to be home to her 35 carat engagement ring.

The singer seemed in high spirits as she sang her hit song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” but sources close to her reveal she’s begun to really feel the effects of the split in recent days. “First the split didn’t seem to faze Mariah. It was like she expected things to be fine soon,” an insider told People. “Now she realizes that things aren’t fine and not being with James makes her depressed. She is very hurt that he dumped her.”

Another source revealed new details surrounding what happened the fateful day the couple decided to go their separate ways, revealing they were in the middle of wedding planning. The two were reportedly on their yacht in Greece planning their wedding vows when Packer had a change of heart, “Suddenly he’s like, ‘I don’t think I can do this.'”

It is unclear whether or not Carey, who was recently spotted grabbing dinner with her backup dancer Bryan Tanaka, and Packer will find a way to work things out, but for now, the singer is throwing herself into her work,  “[Mariah] doesn’t want to sit at home and dwell on it.”
