Details of Mariah Carey and James Packer’s Prenup Revealed

Mariah Carey and ex-fiancé James Packer called off their engagement in September and details from a leaked pre-nuptial agreement may shed some light on exactly why. TMZ got their hands on a draft and shared some of the crazier details.

The section TMZ cites as the reason negotiations over the prenup broke down details the amount of money Carey would be paid for marrying Packer.

“James will pay Mariah, and Mariah shall accept, $6 Million dollars per year for each full year of marriage, up to a maximum of $30 million … adjusted pro-rata on a weekly basis,” it said.

TMZ says Carey reportedly rejected that money, claiming that Packer agreed to a $50 Million payout if the marriage failed.

Other sections were even stranger. One specified what exactly constitutes a gift. Any jewelry worth more than $250,000 wouldn’t be considered a gift unless it was accompanied by a note from Packer stating in writing, “This is my gift to you.”

Another would specify a maximum amount of money that Packer would spend on clothes for Carey, none of which were to be used for performing. There would also be a credit card for Carey with a monthly allowance of how much she could spend on it.

Carey’s staff reportedly rejected the prenup as “tacky and insulting.”
