Kid Cudi Performs for the First Time Since Entering Rehab for Depression
On Saturday (Nov. 5, 2016), Kid Cudi appeared at ComplexCon 2016 in Long Beach, CA; it was his first performance since leaving rehab where he checked himself in to cope with “depression and suicidal urges” last month.
His triumphant return included some of his biggest hits including “Up, Up and Away” and “Pursuit of Happiness,” as well as some guest appearances from heavy hitters like Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott, who helped introduce fans to several new songs including “Surfin’,” per E! News.
On October 5, the Cleveland rapper wrote an open letter to his fans on Facebook revealing that he had decided to enter a treatment facility to manage feelings of hopelessness.
“It’s been difficult for me to find the words to what I’m about to share with you because I feel ashamed,” he wrote. “Ashamed to be a leader and hero to so many while admitting I’ve been living a lie. It took me a while to get to this place of commitment, but it is something I have to do for myself, my family, my best friend/daughter and all of you, my fans. Yesterday I checked myself into rehab for depression and suicidal urges.”
Since leaving rehab, Cudi hasn’t readdressed Drake’s jab, calling his stint in rehab a “phase,” and hinting that Cudi is medicating to deal with depression in his new track “Two Birds, One Stone.”
