Mark-Paul Gosselaar and the Rest of the ‘Pitch’ Cast Strip Down for New Photos
If Fox’s Pitch, a show centered on the first female pitcher in the MLB, hasn’t earned your viewership quite yet, perhaps this bit of titillating PR will do the trick. In reaction to a recent storyline within the show, the on-screen athletes all posed for nude photo shoots, including Save by the Bell alum Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
Wearing just his kneepads and cleats and hold his catcher’s mitt, the TV star is imposing and nearly unrecognizable in the new black-and-white image, and maybe that’s the point. On the show, he plays Mike Lawson, a veteran, and mentor on the San Diego Padres’ roster.
Earlier this season, the show’s central character Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury) is forced to cope with something all familiar in 2016 — a nude photo scandal. Instead of distancing themselves from their pitcher, the entire fictional team poses for nude photos in the act of solidarity.
“The show takes place in the world of baseball, but it’s not about baseball; it’s about the relationships between the players, and their day-in and day-out struggles,” Gosselaar told Entertainment Weekly recently. “There’s comedy, drama, and everything in between. I don’t think I’ve gone through an episode where I haven’t teared up, but that could be because I probably need to go on hormone treatment or something. I’ll chalk it up less to the hormones, and more to the magnificent writing.”
Pitch airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
