Natalie Portman Is Hypnotic and Devastating in the First Full Trailer for ‘Jackie’
Throughout 2016, we’ve already seen some early picks for awards glory fizzle prematurely, like Nate Parker’s festival darling The Birth of a Nation. But at the moment, the biopic Jackie starring Natalie Portman is positioned to clean up in the coming months. Today (Nov. 14, 2016), the first full trailer was released for the period piece teasing a career-defining performance from the Oscar-winner.
The film begins with Jacqueline Kennedy’s days as First Lady in the White House and explores well after the assassination of her husband John F. Kennedy in 1963, including a particularly revelatory interview for Life magazine.
The new trailer begins with a haunting line from leading lady: “People like to believe in fairy tales…I believe that the characters we read about on the page end up being more real than the men who stand beside us.”
Viewers get the briefest glimpses of intimate and jarring moments from the film including the presidential motorcade speeding away after the shooting in Dallas, JFK’s enormous funeral in Washington D.C., and Portman washing blood out of her hair in the shower.
Jackie arrives in theaters on Dec. 2, 2016.
