Here’s How Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander Make Their Relationship Work

Michael Fassbender Wants Either Ryan Gosling or a Woman to Play James Bond
Sorry, Michael Fassbender isn't interested in playing 007.

Though Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander have been dating for almost two years, very little has been revealed about the notoriously private couple’s relationship. So, how do they do it?

According to the actor, who stars alongside his girlfriend in The Light Between Oceans, he shares a mutual understanding with Vikander about the importance of privacy as a celebrity. While speaking to Esquire for his cover story, Fassbender explains that it’s actually very easy to keep a relationship out of the spotlight.

“[H]e assured me it is in fact very simple, because they have chosen not to talk about their partnership,” the reporter notes. “They’re each willing to acknowledge that the relationship exists and to repeat kind and respectful platitudes about how hardworking and inspiring the other is. But neither is willing to betray anything intimate.”

Fassbender also admits that he looks to his family for strength and support. Still very close to his parents and his sister, the 39-year-old believes they’ve helped him become who he is today.

“They’re very much a part of who I am,” he says. “Somebody was asking me last night, when I do emotional scenes, how do I go about getting there? What I do more often than not is pray to relatives who are gone. I feel like they are there with me. There are times in life where I’ve just thought, Somebody was looking after me there. Somebody was looking out for me.

Previously, Fassbender said that falling for Vikander “just happened” while to two were working together.

“It’s good that it happened,” he told Good Morning Britain. “It is what it is.”
