Ricky Martin Is in Love, Engaged and Going to Vegas
The singer has been dating conceptual artist Jwan Yosef since at least April when he announced the relationship on Instagram. Today, he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to announce that the couple is engaged.
DeGeneres wanted to know all the details: How they met, who asked whom, how did the proposal go, all of that. Martin told her that art brought them together. He’s a collector, and he came across some of Yosef’s art and loved it so much, he reached out to the artist.
“And then you collected him!” DeGeneres says.
Martin laughed and confirmed that’s basically what happened. “I had no idea what he looked like and then I saw what he looked like and I’m like, ‘yeah.’ And we just got engage.”
Martin then went on to tell the host possibly the sweetest engagement story you’ll hear all day.
“I proposed,” Martin said. “I was really nervous, but I got down on my knees and I took out the little metal box… and instead of saying ‘Would you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!’ Bad!”
Thankfully, Yosef gave him another chance. “I said, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you,’ And he was like, ‘What is the question?’ ‘Would you marry me?’ That’s it.” Awww. Martin said it didn’t even register that Yosef had said yes until about half an hour later.
That wasn’t the only news to come out of Martin’s appearance on the show. The singer announced that he has a new gig coming up: A residency in Las Vegas.
Martin was so excited about his upcoming gig that he invited the entire audience to come see him. DeGeneres decided to help out by providing everyone with tickets to the concert and a two-night stay at Las Vegas’s Monte Carlo hotel. Watch the videos above to see all the excitement.
