Meryl Streep Is Coming to TV and Will Make a Pretty Penny for Every Episode

Being a TV star used to be the financial minor leagues of Hollywood; the real paychecks were in features. But nowadays, with TV booming and streaming on the rise, all the money has fled to the small screen. Another incentive: actors can spend years exploring a character, rather than weeks or months. So it only makes sense that Meryl Streep would eventually climb on board. According to a new report from Vulture, the beloved actress has signed on to star in J.J. Abrams’ new upcoming show for which she’ll be making $825,000 per episode!

Streep’s new series is The Nix. It’s based on a book of the same name, which was released in August. Per Variety, it “centers around Samuel Andresen-Anderson, a college professor whose estranged mother reappears decades after abandoning the family, having committed an absurd crime that incites a media frenzy.”

Now, although $825,000 is a ludicrous chunk of change, it turns out Streep isn’t exactly a top earner in the bizarre world of TV. For comparison’s sake, Game of Thrones stars like Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke rake in $1.1 million per episode and the stars of The Big Bang Theory all make a cool million for each installment.

So yeah, maybe Meryl will get there some day!
