2016 American Music Awards: Gigi Hadid Has a Message for Red Carpet Photographers

Gigi Hadid, co-host of the 2016 American Music Awards, feels as though red carpet photographers should rethink the way they address female celebrities.

Prior to her arrival at the 2016 AMAs, Glamour asked Hadid for her opinion on photographers yelling names like “sweetheart” or “honey” at female celebs to get their attention. She responded, “I kind of like to do my own thing on the carpet. There’s so many voices that you really can’t listen to all of them, so you just have to [pose] in a more methodical way.”

“I think when I hear other people get called things like [honey or sweetheart], I just want to say, ‘He or she has a name!’ But you know, that’s just one of the things that happens.”

Hadid wore a floor-length, off-the-shoulder, lacy Roberto Cavalli gown on the AMAs’ red carpet Sunday night (Nov. 20, 2016). Her hair was teased at the crown and her makeup was mostly nude, save for a peachy coral lip tint.

Earlier in the day, Hadid posted a photo from the ceremony’s rehearsal on Instagram. She revealed to People that she voted for her boyfriend Zayn Malik, who is nominated for the New Artist of the Year award. It’s been amazing to see him learn about himself and the music that makes him really happy to sing,” said Hadid. “I would just be very excited for him if he were to win.”
