Dwayne Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda Are (Kinda) Making a Musical Together
In case you aren’t keeping score, Dwayne Johnson is having a super duper good year. Not only is he the highest paid actor in the world, but he’s also People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive. And now that the 44-year-old actor has taken over the world, he’s letting fans in on a little secret: He can sing super duper well. Not only is flexing his vocal chords in the new Disney film Moana, he and the film’s songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda have teamed up to produce a new project: Millennials: The Musical.
In a new behind-the-scenes clip, Johnson and Miranda explain how they were pitched the idea by the musical’s director Michael Palomar (played by Jack Jordan Norman) via Twitter and fell in love with it.
“I love pitches under one hundred and forty characters,” Johnson gleefully adds as Miranda explains this new venture. What follows is a peek at the backstage drama between the cast and the director as the musical approaches opening day. Egos flare up, rewrites abound and Johnson shares an incredible clip of himself dancing in his garage.
The musical itself will arrive on Johnson’s YouTube on Nov. 29, 2016. Until then, check out the making-of clip below. Granted, there’s no singing from Johnson but maybe he’s just holding back until the musical debuts.
Moana arrives in theaters Nov. 23, 2016.
