Derek Hough Confirms He’s Leaving ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Derek Hough dropped by Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show to chat about his insanely busy schedule where he confirmed that, sadly, he’s decided to leave Dancing with the Stars.

“I won’t be back next season. I’m going to be part of a new show called World of Dance with Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo and it’s going to be a fun show. It’s going to be a great show,” he told the comedian.

This isn’t the first time Hough has pressed pause on the hit show to pursue other projects. He missed Season 12 to be in Make Your Move 3D, a South Korean-American dance film. He also decided to skip Season 22.

During their chat, they also briefly discussed the 31-year-old performer’s role in Hairspray Live! where he revealed just how demanding this production is going to be.

“It’s coming up and it’s a challenge,” Hough said, admitting to some jitters. “The extent of this…the magnitude of it. I mean, it’s like filming a full-length feature film live before your eyes…”

Hairspray Live! airs Dec. 7, 2016 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
