Amy Schumer to Take the Lead in Live-Action ‘Barbie’ Movie
For years producers have been hard at work trying to get Mattel’s beloved Barbie doll up on the big screen. But now, with a fresh story of female empowerment, the film has been fast-tracked, and Amy Schumer has signed on to play the iconic doll!
According to Deadline, the film will be a fish-out-of-water tale in which Barbie is cast out of Barbieland because she’s not perfect enough. While struggling through the real world, Barbie discovers that real beauty comes from within, before returning to Barbieland to rescue its inhabitants. It’s easy to imagine Schumer’s brazen brand of humor beautifully turning this familiar storyline on its ear.
At the moment, Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele are adding their own unique edge to the script while her contract is quickly being hammered out.
Barbie is tentatively scheduled for a big summer release in 2018.
