Jake Gyllenhaal Is Returning to Broadway

Jake Gyllenhaal is heading to Broadway once again.

The actor, who previously appeared in Constellations in 2015, will reprise his role in Sunday in the Park With George. The production is said to a more fully developed version of the four-performance benefit concert starring Gyllenhaal that was performed at New York City Center this October.

According to the New York TimesAnnaleigh Ashford will also reprise her role, while Sarna Lapine will follow the production as its director.

A spokeswoman for the show says that the Broadway staging would be “fully memorized” and that the sets and costumes would be “deepened.”

The show will be the first performance in 49 years at Hudson Theater, which is being reconverted back into a stage after many years of being used as a party and conference space.

Sunday in the Park With George is a Stephen Sondheim musical inspired by the Georges Seurat’s painting, “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte.” Its new 10-week run will begin previews on Feb. 11, 2017 and open official on Feb. 23, 2017.
