Lady Gaga Thanks Madonna for Being ‘Brave and Strong,’ Takes on Piers Morgan

Lady Gaga and Madonna have had their differences over the years, but regardless of their complicated past, Gaga knows how important it is for women to support each other.

So, after Madonna gave a heartfelt speech while accepting the Billboard Woman of the Year Award, in which she detailed just how tough her journey to the top has been, Gaga took to Twitter to thank her. “@Madonna your speech at the Billboard Music Awards was inspiring,” she wrote. “You’re so brave & strong. Thanks for being that for us girls we need that.”

In her speech, Madonna touched on the difficulties of being a woman in the industry. “Thank you for acknowledging my ability to continue my career for 34 years in the face of blank misogyny, sexism, constant bullying and relentless abuse,” she told the crowd before opening up about the very beginning of her career. “In the first year, I was held up at gunpoint, raped on a rooftop with a knife digging into my throat, and I had my apartment broken into so many times, I just stopped locking the door.”

Seemingly inspired by Madonna’s bravery, Gaga proceeded to take on Piers Morgan, who over the weekend slammed both singers for claiming to suffer from PTSD as a result of their past sexual assaults and even questioned if said assaults ever happened.

After the singer politely dragged the journalist, she agreed to sit down with him for an interview on his show, but not before she made it known that she won’t tolerate his disrespect.
