Bittersweet news for One Directioners: the band probably won’t be getting back together, as Zayn Malik revealed he’s doing very well without it.
While in New York City, the singer appeared on The Elvis Duran Show on Tuesday morning (Dec. 13, 2016). Malik took the opportunity to speak candidly, according to E! Online. Most notably, he spoke about how much more independent, and less stressed, he feels since quitting the band.
“I’m enjoying what I’m doing at the minute. When I was in the band, there were times when I needed time away to go see my family and recollect my thoughts,” Malik said. “But right now, I feel like I have the time to process things, and I’m doing things in my own space, so it’s a good place to be in.”
One of the things the singer used his newfound independence to accomplish was putting out a self-titled book. Malik described writing as a little bit of therapy, which he enjoyed.
“It was fun to reminisce on things and think about what was good and what was bad and make sense of it all. I didn’t have time to do that in the band,” he said. “I feel my self growing every day as a person.”
Malik’s love life has also been going well since leaving One Direction. While in New York, the singer took the time to visit his girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid, at her apartment in NoHo.
Malik was spotted entering the building wearing a warm winter coat with a plaid sweater and black boots. Check out the gallery above for more photos of Malik braving the cold to spend some time with Hadid.
