Yesterday (Dec. 13, 2016), Alan Thicke died of a sudden heart attack while playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter. Now, new information has surfaced about the beloved actor’s final moments and just how unexpected his death was.
Just minutes before telling his son he didn’t feel well and taking a seat on a bench at Pickwick Ice in Burbank, CA, TMZ reports that Thicke was lighthearted. Friend and actor Michael Vartan said he and the Growing Pains star were joking about the quality of the rink’s coffee as well as the work of a street artist who was in attendance.
In fact, when someone did finally call 911, Thicke was awake and “alert,” even jokingly asking his son to take a photo to remember the moment, which he did.
Thicke was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.
“Alan was a devoted father, husband, friend and role model. He knew how to harness the power of the entertainment industry to be a positive influence in so many lives – including mine. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I had to work with Alan early in my career. He had tremendous class, a huge heart, and he taught me and so many others the valuable lessons about humility and gratitude. I’ve seen him a number of times over the years and when Alan Thicke walked in the room, quite frankly, no one was cooler. I miss him already – my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Thicke family during this difficult time.”
