Nicole Scherzinger Reportedly Considered Turning Down ‘Dirty Dancing’ Role Because of Her Anti-Abortion Stance
Soon, Nicole Scherzinger will appear in ABC’s hotly-anticipated three-part remake of the classic coming-of-age film Dirty Dancing. But, although the actress was paid a hefty seven-figure salary for the gig, she revealed that she considering dropping the part because her character undergoes an abortion.
“…My Papa’s a Bishop and my family’s really hardcore against abortion,” she told The Daily Mail. “So I got the role and I almost didn’t take it because I didn’t want to promote abortion, because my character has an abortion.”
The X Factor judge explained that it’s not just her family’s strict opposition to abortion that informs her position. In her eyes, she wouldn’t be here if her family felt differently.
“My mum got pregnant with me when she was 17 and had me when she was 18. She chose,” she continued. “Her parents were never going to let her have an abortion. So I came out, so I just want to, you know, encourage everybody to keep your babies.”
The Dirty Dancing remake will arrive some time in 2017.
