Carrie Fisher Celebrated at Memorial with Song by Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow, More

The loved ones of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds — including Gwyneth Paltrow, George Lucas, and Meryl Streep — gathered at Fisher’s Beverly Hills home to remember her life.

A small memorial for Fisher was held on Thursday (Jan. 5, 2017), just one day before Reynolds’ funeral on Friday, which will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd chose to host the memorial at Fisher’s home since her mother would often host parties there. “Billie wanted the people her mother loved to gather in that living room one last time,” a source close to Fisher told Entertainment Weekly. Guests included Taylor Lautner, Meg Ryan, Carrie’s ex Bryan Lourd, and Reynolds’ only other child, Todd Fisher.

According to EW, Fisher’s staple entertaining dishes were served at the memorial, including fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread. “Debbie would sit in the corner, and everyone there would come up and pay homage. Even the biggest stars were starstruck by her,” a friend recalled of the dinner parties that the mother-daughter duo hosted. “Carrie would walk around barefoot with a can of Coca-Cola, making sure everyone was having a good time, saying the funniest things you’ve ever heard.”

During the memorial, Streep sang Fisher’s favorite song, “Happy Days Are Here Again.”

“By the end, everyone was singing,” said the family friend.

Fisher passed away at the age of 60 on Dec. 27, 2016, due to a heart attack. Reynolds died at 84 one day later. Reynolds will be buried with some of Fisher’s ashes.
