WATCH: Michelle Obama Gets Teary-Eyed During Final Speech as First Lady

Michelle Obama couldn’t hold back her emotions when she delivered her final speech as the First Lady of the United States.

The wife of President Barack Obama got a little teary-eyed on Friday (Jan. 6, 2017) when she took the stage during a ceremony honoring the 2017 School Counselor of the Year. Speaking from the East Room of the White House, Michelle got choked up as she thanked supporters for the last eight years.

“Know that this country belongs to you. All of you. From every background and every walk of life,” she told the crowd.

“I am so grateful to all of you for your passion and your dedication and all the hard work on behalf of the next generation, and I can think of no better way to end my time as first lady than celebrating with all of you, so I want to close today by simply saying ‘thank you,'” she said with a breaking voice. “Being your first lady has been the greatest honor of my life, and I hope I’ve made you proud.”
