17 Suspects in Kim Kardashian Robbery Case Arrested and Revealed
CNN reports that 17 arrests have been made in the case surrounding Kim Kardashian’s gunpoint robbery that occurred during Paris Fashion Week.
A spokesman for the Paris prosecutor told the news outlet that 17 people were detained in Paris, the eastern suburbs of Raincy and Vincennes, and Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes in a police sting that commenced at 6 a.m. local time on Monday (Jan. 9, 2017). The French broadcaster Europe 1 originally reported 15 arrests, according to the Washington Post.
Police officials told the AP that suspects in the case range in age from 23 to 72 and were known for prior robberies and other crimes. Three suspects are female while 14 are male. Firearms and 140,00 euros ($146,500) were found during the police operation. The Post notes that in France, suspects can be held for up to 96 hours before authorities must charge them or release them. French photographers were permitted to take photos at the perp walk on Monday. Launch the gallery at the top of the page to see the photos.
Jean Veil, the French lawyer for Kardashian’s case, said in response to this news, “These arrests are a nice surprise because we might be able to find the jewels.”
Over $10 million worth of Kardashian’s jewelry, which included a $4.49 million ring from Kanye West, was stolen from the reality star’s hotel room in Paris during Paris Fashion Week in October. The masked assailants bound and gagged Kardashian and locked her in the bathroom during the raid. Though she was not physically harmed, Kardashian’s spokesperson said that she was “badly shaken.” A new promo clip from the upcoming season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians shows that the family will publicly address the aftermath that followed her robbery.
