The reason why Mischa Barton was hospitalized last week doubles as a cautionary tale for young women and men.
Barton, who was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Thursday (Jan. 26, 2017), explained to People that she was drugged while she was celebrating her 31st birthday with her friends.
“On the evening of the 25th, I went out with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realized that something was not right as my behavior was becoming erratic and continued to intensify over the next several hours,” Barton said in the statement to People.
“I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB. After an overnight stay, I am home and doing well,” the statement continued. “I would like to extend a big thanks of gratitude to the professionals at Cedars-Sinai for their great care and professionalism. This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings.”
GHB is more commonly known as the “date rape drug.” It’s a depressant that is often placed in alcoholic beverages.
A disturbing video of Barton hanging on her fence and rambling incoherently was posted on TMZ on Monday (Jan. 30, 2017). In the video, she calls her mother a “witch” and references Ziggy Stardust. Watch the video over on TMZ.
