Tom Hiddleston Insists His Relationship with Taylor Swift ‘Was Real’

Tom Hiddleston wants you to know that Hiddleswift was definitely not a PR stunt — by publicly speaking about it in the latest issue of GQ.

In the cover story, the Night Manager star insisted that the three-month romance with Taylor Swift was not faked for attention, saying, “Of course it was real.”

“Taylor is an amazing woman,” he explained. “She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time.”

Hiddleston, 35, and Swift, 27, started dating last summer after meeting at the Met Gala. Weeks after their first encounter, the couple were photographed kissing at the “Bad Blood” singer’s Rhode Island estate before embarking on an around-the-world vacation that stopped in three different continents, four different countries, and three different states.

During Swift’s heavily-photographed Fourth of July party, Hiddleston was spotted wearing a (cringe-worthy) tank top that read “I ❤︎ T.S,” prompting critics to suspect that their relationship was a ploy for more press. However, according to Hiddleston, he wore that shirt simply because it was the only he had at the time.

“The truth is it was the Fourth of July and a public holiday and we were playing a game and I slipped and hurt my back,” he recalled. “And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, ‘Does anyone have a T-shirt?’ And one of her friends said, ‘I’ve got this.'”

“We all laughed about it. It was a joke,” he said, before reiterating, “It was a joke. Among friends.”
