Nick Cannon Quits ‘America’s Got Talent’

Nick Cannon is refusing to work with NBC after some of the network’s executives allegedly threatened to fire him from his America’s Got Talent gig.

The comedian, who has been hosting the reality competition for eight season, announced this week that he will not return amid controversy over a racially charged joke he made on his recent Showtime stand-up special, Stand Up, Don’t Shoot. According to Cannon, NBC wanted to terminate his contract and told him the comment “disparaged the brand.”

Cannon claimed that once the NBC execs caught wind of his jokes and threatened him, he said enough is enough: “My soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices.”
